Cristian Duarte is a dancer and choreographer who lives and works in São Paulo. He danced in Studio and Cia Nova Dança between 1994 and 2000 before entering to the choreography department of P.A.R.T.S. (Performing Arts, Research and Training Studios), school directed by choreographer Anne Teresa de Keersmaeker in Brussels, where he graduated in 2002. His artistic practice has been marked by the creation of contexts for experimentation and training in dance such as the Lote artistic residency, which in addition to stimulating shared work practices, has been fundamental cosmo of his choreographic action since 2011.
His production have been recognized by the main dance awards in Brazil and presented internationally in countries such as Sweden, Singapore, Spain, Germany, Holland, France, England, Portugal, Belgium, Argentina, Uruguay and Chile.
Among his works are: What is really happening when something happens? (2017), Ó (2016), Biomashup (2014), The Hot One Hundred Choreographers (2011), Médelei – I am Brazilian (etc) and I never exist (2006) and Against the Current, Glow (2015) for Cullberg Ballet in Stockholm, where he was also a teacher and choreographer invited by DOCH – University of Dance and Circus in 2013 and 2015. He was also a guest choreographer in prestigious dance schools such as Laban Center (London) and P.A.R.T.S. (Brussels).
Chemical Fictions/Tactile Dramaturgies is his current field of research that looks at fiction as a haptic extension of reality and for chemistry as an agent of emotion that navigates the innards of performativity and its varieties of representation.
