Choreographer Cristian Duarte is an artist from São Paulo with over 25 years of experience. His background includes the Studio and Cia Nova Dança in São Paulo and graduation at P.A.R.T.S. (Performing Arts, Research and Training Studios) in Brussels. His artistic practice has been marked by the creation of contexts for experimentation and training in dance such as APT?, DESABA and LOTE/Z0NA. He has been invited by important educational institutions such as DDSKS (Copenhagen), P.A.R.T.S. (Brussels), SICW platform – Seoul International Choreography Workshop (Seoul), DOCH/SKH – Stockholm University of the Arts (Stockholm), UFRN – Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (Natal/Br), UFBA – Federal University of Bahia ( Salvador/Br), Arizona State University – ASU The Design School (Arizona/US). Choreographed for Transitions Dance Company at the Laban Center (London) and for the Cullberg Ballet (Stockholm). 

His production has been recognized by main dance awards in Brazil and presented internationally in countries like Argentina, Belgium, Chile, Germany, Singapore, Spain, Holland, France, England, Portugal, Uruguay and Sweden. He was one of the curators of the Artistic Actions of the Sesc de Dança 2019 Biennial.

Among his works are: Despedançada (2021), Zoomzz (2021), Já É (2020), Home100 (2020), Hack100 – A backdrop (Audiovisual / 2020), Let It All Out (2018), What is really happening when something happens? (2017), Ó (2016), Against the Current, Glow for the Stockholm Cullberg Ballet (2015), Biomashup (2014), The Hot One Hundred Choreographers (2011) and Médelei – I am Brazilian (etc) and I never exist (2006).

  • Chemical Fictions/Tactile Dramaturgies is his current research area that looks at fiction as a haptic extension of reality and to chemistry as an agent of emotion that navigates the  innards of performativity and its varieties of representation.
  • Cristian Duarte in company represents the choreographer’s working structure that involves different artists in his productions.
